Treatments for chronic pain include medication management, physical therapy, interventional procedures (such as injections and nerve blocks), and alternative therapies like acupuncture and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
During your first visit, the doctor will review your medical history, conduct a physical examination, and discuss your pain symptoms. They may also order diagnostic tests to determine the cause of your pain and develop a personalized treatment plan.
Many pain management treatments are covered by insurance, but coverage can vary depending on your insurance provider and plan. It's best to check with your insurance company to understand your benefits.
While pain management aims to reduce and control pain, complete elimination of pain is not always possible. The goal is to improve your quality of life and functionality by managing pain effectively.
Potential side effects vary depending on the type of treatment. Medications may cause drowsiness, nausea, or constipation, while interventional procedures might result in temporary soreness or bruising at the injection site.
